DR PALEVSKY’S COMMENTS: For more than 50 years, scientific studies have shown the damaging health effects of consuming dyes, additives, preservatives, and food colorings. Why were the British people, since this Lancet study came out in 200...7, able to influence the food manufacturers to change their ways? Because in Britain, the science seems to have some significance. In the US, however, the science seems to be meaningless. Despite having good, appropriate, sound, and legitimate scientific studies to support the removal of these chemicals from foods, the FDA, even by March 2011, seems to be able to find a spin that convinces the American public, "that a causal relationship between exposure to color additives and hyperactivity in children in the general population has not been established." Even the skeptical American Academy of Pediatrics put out a position paper in February 2008 stating, there is "accumulating evidence that neurobehavioral toxicity may characterize a variety of widely distributed chemicals......some children may be more sensitive to the effects of these chemicals." (See feingold.org/aap.html for more information). The bottom line is scientific evidence does not seem to be enough to force the hand of the American governmental agencies who are supposed to be held responsible for protecting the American people from harm. Who are governmental agencies, like the FDA, beholden to? The American people? Don't be fooled. If you want to see the change that's needed to make the food industry take these toxic chemicals out of our foods, then either band together, march on Washington, and make a loud enough stink, (which most Americans are either too apathetic or too busy to make this a priority), or just change your consumer practices. If we stop buying the foods that are processed, and contain all these toxic chemicals, dyes, preservatives, additives, and food colorings, then the manufacturers will listen. Maybe. In the meantime, as a people, we will continue to be sick because there is no incentive for the food manufacturers to change their ways, and neither is there incentive, or accountability, on the part of the American people to change their ways, either. A great way to help America's sick care system to continue to flourish.......
